The Impact Measurement Framework
Impact Measurement Framework Members tell us that our frameworks and models are among the most valuable components of our research library. The recently published Primer for the Measurement of Corporate Training includes our Impact Measurement Framework, a comprehensive guide to practical and effective training measurement.

The Impact Measurement Framework provides a whole set of measures to help clearly gauge and validate business alignment throughout all phases of a training program – from problem definition through program rollout and course updates.

The research bulletin provides an in-depth look into the influencing elements on business impact and the nine types of measurements that can be used at various stages of a training program. These measurements range from the most basic, such as satisfaction and learning adoption to the more sophisticated metrics for efficiency and business alignment. The bulletin also provides many examples and practical suggestions.

Download and use this framework to help you assess your current measurement strategy and to identify and prioritize other metrics your organization should implement. The Impact Measurement Framework is covered extensively in The Training Measurement Book and the research study, High-Impact Learning Measurement.

Research members will find more than 40 illustrative models in our research library. These models cover a variety of areas – from governance to coaching to workforce planning. All can help you easily and quickly compare your current processes with the latest proven best practices.

Globalization of Learning

Josh Bersin
President

Earlier this month, I hosted a panel session at ASTD on best practices in the globalization of L&D programs. Brad Samargya, the CLO of CA, and Peter Christensen, the manager of corporate learning at Vestas, joined me and presented their solutions for global technical and onboarding programs.

Our research shows that 56% of all companies now consider globalization a critical success factor. So rather than viewing globalization as a translation or conversion project, we need to see it as an up-front design issue.

Our just-published research bulletin, How to Globalize Learning Programs: 20 Best Practices, spans considerations for any organization looking to globalize its learning. Following are a few that we highlighted at ASTD:

  • Most technical employees can read English, so it is not necessary to translate all documentation. Focus translation on soft skills, process-related training, and marketing.
  • To reduce the globalization costs for e-learning programs, consider translating just the scripts and reading material.
  • Incorporate multi-cultural elements and characters in core material. Test case studies and interactions in different cultures.
  • Local delivery and local support is critical to the success of any global program. Also, consider using local mentors and tutors to evaluate assignments, provide local feedback, post comments, and answer questions.
  • Implement a globalization checklist right into your standard design and development process to make sure you aren't reinventing the wheel for each program.

Globalization is one of our major research topics. We encourage you to use our research resources, including detailed case studies, to better understand how to globalize all your learning and talent programs.

We welcome your comments and thoughts on this topic; please email info@bersin.com to share.
